1 Peter 5:8 (TLB)

Be careful—watch out for attacks from Satan, your great enemy. He prowls around like a hungry, roaring lion, looking for some victim to tear apart.

Lucifer, before he became Satan. was an angelic being created by God, he was the first ruler of the earth.  He had a kingdom on the Earth long before the six days of Gen. 1:3-2:25 and the creation of Adam.  He had dominion of the earth according to Isa. 14:12-14; Ezek. 28:11-17; Lk. 10:18; 2 Pet. 3:4-8; Jer. 4:23-26; and other passages.

God anointed Lucifer guardian of the earth and he had full access to God. He had “the seal of perfection” he was blameless, sinless, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. He had everything that a leader needed. He remained perfect in his ways until he lost his moral and spiritual values. “His heart became proud on account of his beauty, and corrupted his wisdom because of his splendor (Ezekiel 28:17).” He fell  when he rebelled against God and became the enemy of God and mankind through sin in trying to exalt himself above God “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee (Ezek.28:11-17)

Even though Lucifer may have been God’s number one angel, he still wanted more. He was jealous and envious of God; he actually wanted to take God’s place. In Isaiah 14:13 it says, “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.” The next verse says, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High." In other words, "I will take over heaven, I will be God."

He walked up and down the Mount of God slandering God to his own subjects on earth, and also God’s subjects among the angels, until he had all his earthly subjects rebelling against the Creator, as well as over one-third of the angels ( Isiah 14:12-14; 2 Peter 3:4-6: Rev. 12:14). After Lucifer, along with one-third of the angelic hosts were kicked out of heaven because of rebellion, their expulsion from heaven meant a harsh rejection from God due to their arrogance and pride. Since they were rejected by God, their holiness, perfection and their goodness, was no longer valid or true.

They were all transformed into evil spirits. Lucifer becomes Satan, and his legions of angels become demons.  The term Satan means adversary; enemy; accuser. in other words, the one who is always there to oppose God and His people. Satan is well aware of the fact that there is no restoration for him, and his time is running short day-by-day (Revelation 12:12). He is in a completely desperate situation because he has already been judged and condemned by God. Consequently, he  and his demons final destination is the Lake of fire (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:14).

When God created the world (Gen 1:1) the world was in His dominion.  Then He created humans to live under his loving dominion and to exercise his dominion over the whole earth (Gen.1:26-28). He gave dominion to man so dominion did not belong to God anymore.  God said to David    (“ Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie…”) Psalms 89:35 (NLT).  When Adam received this dominion, he became the god of this world.

Whatever a slave owns is given to his master, which in this case is dominion over the earth. By obeying and agreeing with the snake in the garden, man became a slave and debtor to Satan and he and the dominion of man was transferred to Satan. If you obey sin, you’re a slave to sin and you’ll die” (Gen 2:17). Romans 6:16 says, “Don’t you know that you become a slave to whoever you obey?  Anything or anyone you follow will be your master. Jesus said, “A servant is not greater than his master” (John 13:16. Satan is now god of this world (2 Cor 4:4, John 12:31, Eph 2:2).

Therefore, there is now a conflict of interest between God and Satan. That conflict is called Spiritual Warfare, which has its origin in Lucifer’s rebellion. The testimony of the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-18 notes that believers battle against the devil's schemes and that this is a spiritual battle, not a physical one. We are to be fully aware of Satan's evil plans (2 Corinthians 2:11). Paul further describes the warfare in which we are engaged as we battle throughout our lives "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).

Satan as god of this world, is leading an array of forces opposed to God. Although disarmed by Jesus Christ on the cross, they remain a powerful threat to the church and to individual believers. As god of this world Satan is going about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). His demons are looking for willing physical bodies which they may oppress or possess. They are looking for people to harden their hearts and blind their eyes so they may not know the true God or spiritual things of God, for the purpose of not only destroying their souls but to use them in order to fulfill his agenda. So. demons are seeking open doors for things like lust, rebellion, strife, unforgiveness, fear,  so his demons may enter into their physical bodies. When we yield to those things, we are empowering Satan to destroy us.

Satan became a god over people who are in God’s  image.  Satan hates God so much, but he knows that he cannot harm God because God is all-powerful and he cannot be defeated so Satan sets out to hurt the people God created in His image and likeness by making them sick to death or  oppressing or possessing them with demons.  He knew that God is love and cares for His creation; so, he found that the best way to overthrow God was by overthrowing those who are made in His image and likeness. The Bible tells us in (Genesis 1:26) that God has made us in His image, which demonstrates that we’re very important and special to Him.

The only way for humanity to be bought back from Satan was for God to wrap Himself in flesh and come from heaven to earth as the God-Man, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to buy us back from iniquity and purify us (Titus 2:14).  Romans 5:19 says, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”

God’s original intent in creation is for human beings to be healthy:   spiritually, physically, and intellectually (1 Thess. 5:23).  Jesus Christ  was wholly God and wholly man. He became man that He might suffer and die for man's sin and restore the dominion that was lost because of sin. He had to be human to truly represent us and to be able to die—but he had to be God so Jesus’ death would be accepted  by Him as  paid in full. for our sins.  And He became as we are so that He could be touched by our feelings and identify with anything we are going though and thereby become our Perfect High Priest and Advocate sitting at the right-hand of the Father interceding on our behalf. (Heb 2:17).

Man was "crowned... with glory and honor" (Heb. 2:7, NASB), but he lost his crown and became the slave of sin. Jesus Christ has regained that "glory and honor" (Heb. 2:9), and believers today share His kingly dominion (Rev. 1:5-6) As the last Adam (1 Cor. 15:45), Jesus Christ regained man's lost dominion. Today, everything is under Jesus’ feet (Eph. 1:20-23), so it is under our feet.

Jesus was the Son of God. Yet, He called Himself the Son of Man. He had to be a man in order to have legal authority on the earth to destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:9-10). When he died on the cross Satan’s dominion ended  because God the Father gave to Jesus all authority in heaven and on earth.  If anyone is in union with Christ  he is a  New Creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)  created in Christ Jesus with legal rights to all the privileges that were restored in Christ for man (John 14:21). Everything Jesus Christ did, and all that Christ is today, belongs to the New Creation, because the New Creation is a part of Christ.

Christ is united to us, and we are united to Him: we are spiritually one. In fact, we are His "brethren and sister" (Heb. 2:12). we and the Son of God share the same nature and belong to the same family of God! When you become a Christian, you enter into the family of God. The child of God has a legal right to the Father’s protection and care. He has a legal right to food, clothing, and shelter. He has a legal right to fellowship and happiness with the brethren. He has a legal right to reign over Satan and his demons and to reign over poverty.

Jesus doesn’t want you merely to possess eternal life but also to possess the full experience of life. Following Him leads to blessings and joy and a growing experience of eternal life. It allows Him to rebuke and reverse the enemy’s attempts at blocking the blessings, purpose, and spiritual fulfillment God has for your life (Joel 2:25; Mal. 3:11)
